Dr. Jennifer E. Verbesey, MD
Jennifer E. Verbesey, MD, is board certified in general surgery and specializes in kidney/pancreas transplantation for adults and children, and live donor nephrectomies. Dr. Verbesey is the director of the Living Donor Kidney Transplant program at the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute, the surgical director of the Pediatric Kidney Transplant program at MedStar Georgetown Hospital/Children's National Medical Center, and an assistant professor of surgery at Georgetown University Medical School.
Transplant surgery combines what Dr. Verbesey considers to be the best parts of medicine, science and technology, the need for complex decision making, and the opportunity to help others while building lasting relationships. Focusing on the living donor kidney program allows Dr. Verbesey to develop long-term relationships with both kidney donors and recipients. Thanks to the latest medical advances, she's able to make matches using organs that at one time would have been considered incompatible. She and her team specialize in compatible transplants, as well as desensitization procedures, ABO incompatible transplants, and kidney swaps and exchanges.
Dr. Verbesey contributes to advancing transplantation through her research interests in living donor outcomes and quality of life, desensitization procedures and kidney exchanges. In addition, she is heavily involved with education as the associate fellowship director for transplant surgery and as the director of the transplant surgery rotation for residents and medical students.
