Pastor Lionel Phillip Pointer, Jr.

In his 47th year as the 6th Pastor of the historic Round Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, Lionel Phillip Pointer, Jr., continues to faithfully serve this 154 year old church.

Teaching and instruction are a passion for this talented national and international preacher, who has received several awards and served on various boards. His influence abounds, as he has preached in revivals across the nation, as well as in national and local conferences and conventions. Pastor Pointer has also ministered in such countries as Jerusalem, Jordan, Africa, Spain, France, England, and the Bahamas. In fact, through his ministry, thousands of people have heard the Word of God. The Lord has blessed him to produce over 30 men and women gospel ministers and pastors some of whom went on to pastor across the nation and internationally.

Pastor Pointer feeds on the Word of God and lives Ephesians 4:11-13:

And He gave some, apostles; and some prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers: For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children tossed to and fro...

And so this passion continues to guide his life. A part of Lionel Pointer’s journey to this deep spiritual point of service to humanity included a thorough educational process beginning in the Houston Independent School District and leading to Whittier College, Boston University of Law, and then Washington Bible College. He is also the product of Houston’s Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church, during the Pastoral ministry of his father, the Late Pastor Lionel P. Pointer, Sr.

During his years as Pastor at Round Oak, Lionel Pointer has lead two major building projects and developed several church and community ministries, organizations, and programs. Indeed, Pastor Pointer has impacted and facilitated the growth and development of thousands of individuals. For example, individuals who came to Jesus Christ through the ministry of this distinguished ambassador of God, and who were baptized, taught, and ministered to, were blessed tremendously and developed into responsible, productive, and influential members of society. This vibrant growth and development process at Round Oak continues through his strong ministry and leadership.
